At LIDO di VENEZIA there is a small AIRPORT considered the MOST BEAUTIFUL in the WORLD. According to a recent BBC ranking it is the most fascinating airport if you look at the use of general aviation (tourism). And in a global ranking of absolute airport aesthetics it ranks third after Chek Lap Kok in Hong Kong and General Berillo in Montevideo. GABRIELE D’ANNUNZIO and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry passed here while trying to break the flight record from Paris to Saigon. The runway, now over a thousand meters long, is still in use and is sufficient for the traffic of touring airplanes and helicopters. The small refueling and boarding area is in red concrete and the adjacent hangar in metal. The building is white, with three floors with large windows and is crowned by a large terrace which is accessed by an external staircase: intended to house the grandstand for the reception of the public on the occasion of events. From the terrace the view is still unique today: memorable film scenes were shot here because the panorama is exceptional, on one side Venice and the lagoon, on the other the green field and the sea. The architectural quality is remarkable, as are the furnishings, the iron armchairs and the Venini chandeliers.
